About Northminster Preschool
Since our school was organized in 1972, we have been dedicated to providing a play-based program for child development in a Christian atmosphere. We provide learning experiences for children of the church membership and the community in an environment that encourages the child to:
- Ask questions.
- Explore and experiment.
- Develop new security and independence in the world outside the home.
- Make friends and learn to interact with other children and adults.
Under the leadership of qualified teachers, the preschool classes include a balance of guided play activities, creative artwork, music and movement, outdoor and indoor large muscle play, language development, storytime, and various other group activities.
The school is non-profit and self-supporting, functioning as a service to the community with the approval of the Session and Christian Education Committee of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Classes are staffed with qualified, experienced teachers and assistants. All staff members are trained and certified by the American Heart Association in Pediatric CPR and Emergency First Aid Procedures for infants and children. The school is licensed to operate by the Marion County Board of Health and is inspected annually.
We are grateful to Northminster Presbyterian Church for its support and for sharing its facilities with us. We are also grateful to our parents for their confidence in us, their enthusiasm, and their wonderful children, without whom we would have no purpose.
Interested Parents
The Northminster Community Preschool offers the following programs:
2/3’s Class
The 2/3's program provides a warm and caring environment for children's first experience away from parents and with peers. We focus on creating a positive and happy time for them with opportunities to learn cooperation and sharing skills, and to stimulate their curiosity. Our hope is for them to grow socially and emotionally.
- Classes are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Children must be 18 months old by August 1 of the upcoming school year and not yet eligible for preschool.
- The Wednesday class is specifically for children who are 2 ½ years old by August 1.
- Most children come one day a week but are welcome to attend more days.
- Children bring their lunch to school and nap at school.
3/4’s Preschool Class
The 3/4's and 4/5's classes embrace the philosophy that children learn best through play and are focused on providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is consistent with early childhood education. We provide a fun and safe learning experience with growth, development, and a solid learning foundation in mind. Children participate in activities to develop gross and fine motor skills and are encouraged to explore, interact and cooperate with their peers. We offer many opportunities for children to express themselves creatively through music, art, dramatic play and building. Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Children must be 3 years old by August 1 of the upcoming school year.
- Children must be potty trained before entering preschool.
4/5’s Preschool Class
- Classes are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Children must be 4 years old by August 1 of the upcoming school year.
